Food allergy and food intolerance are different conditions. An allergy involves the immune system; an intolerance does not necessarily do so. Persistent reactions require appropriate medical assessment.
What nutrition support includes
- Plan meals around medically confirmed restrictions.
- Find suitable alternatives when foods must be excluded.
- Use a food and symptom record to support discussions with your clinician.
- Review nutritional adequacy when several foods are avoided.
Nutrition support does not diagnose allergy, identify poisoning or replace prescribed treatment. Do not test a suspected allergen at home. Breathing difficulty or swelling of the mouth or throat after food requires urgent medical help.
